Who we are

We are Jane Stiles and Meryl Jones, a co-directing and co-writing team, residing in Brooklyn. Together we make up Sweet Potato Productions – Not having gone to film school, our work is self-taught. We reject the auteristic notion that a film is made solely by the director and rather embrace the communal endeavor. Their work has screened at festivals such as The Hamptons International, Champs Elysees, NewFest, Indie Memphis, Brooklyn Film Festival, and Oberhausen and been featured on The New Yorker, MUBI, and NoBudge.

Jane (she/her) is an actor, filmmaker, and NYC native. She grew up storytelling through movement and from a young age, she learned to collaboratively choreograph political pieces. Her teachers connected social justice issues to the body, influencing Jane’s filmmaking approach.

Meryl (they/them) is a filmmaker, composer, and sometimes actor residing in New York. They came to filmmaking for its capacity to intermingle and complicate multiple self-expressions.
